About Us

Founded in 2024 by Xavier University of Louisiana alumna, Destinee Kerr, HBCU Friendsgiving began as a simple idea sparked during conversation on an Amtrak ride home, quickly growing into a movement rooted in community, culture, and care.

What started as an effort to provide meals to students evolved into an annual event, with our first gathering in 2025 serving 60 students through meals, giveaways, and community support. Building on that momentum, we launched a year-round ambassador program representing Xavier University of Louisiana, Dillard University, and Southern University at New Orleans, focused on service, student engagement, and professional development.

Through bi-weekly service with partners like Second Harvest Food Bank, our ambassadors remain at the forefront of our impact. Ambassadors are also provided with unique opportunities for professional and cultural enrichment, including attendance at notable events such as the UNCF Mayor's Ball, Beignet Festival, SOHO Weekend, Grambling State University Sneaker Ball, Bayou Classic, and the Legislative Black Caucus Brunch.

In our second year, we expanded to serve over 100 students while continuing to grow our reach and deepen our commitment to combating food insecurity. As we look ahead, HBCU Friendsgiving continues to grow, expanding its impact across campuses, strengthening partnerships, and deepening its commitment to year-round programming that uplifts and supports HBCU students.
